Name: Jason Yormark, CEO

Business Name: Socialistics

Follow: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube

Describe your business.

We work hard every day to make Socialistics the world’s most respected social media agency.

Tell us about your self-employment journey.

I’ve always been wired to do my own thing, but the combination of not being ready, and life situations prevented me from fully embracing it until a few years ago.

Every job, opportunity, and client I experienced over the years helped prepare me for the challenges of entrepreneurship.

I always felt the need for stability in my career and income to take care of my family. But, the irony was that the stability I was looking for was right in front of me the whole time – being in the position to control my own destiny instead of leaving it up to others.

What area of your business are you most passionate about?

I find the opportunity to speak with business leaders and decision-makers about how social media can impact their businesses, so exciting.

What’s the most valuable thing you learned early in your career that has contributed to your success?

By far, my experiences at Microsoft. I went through the hiring/interviewing gauntlet, spending months training, and interviewing hundreds of candidates.

I learned incredible communication skills and the ability to better understand, assess, and read people. It has allowed me to be very successful in hiring and mentoring incredible talent.

How are you pivoting your business during the COVID-19 pandemic?

We’ve taken the downtime as an opportunity to reinvent ourselves a bit, and really focus on doubling down on content creation, thought leadership, and being available and helpful to others, even if it means it’s free.

We know we’re going to come out of this at some point, and our goal is to build foundational pieces that position us to come out stronger on the other end. We’ve launched a sub-brand, as well as a new podcast.

What’s a recent project that you’ve worked on that you’re really excited about?

I’m very proud of the work we’ve done for the Air Force. That was a big win for us to get them as a client, and we absolutely knocked it out of the park by driving a ton of candidate leads for their program. We have a full case study of the work here.

Are you a part of any freelancer communities? Which ones and how do they support you?

We participate in the local marketing agency community on Facebook headed by Josh Nelson.

What advice would you give other self-employed people?

Don’t let fear get in the way of progress. Once I was able to go all-in mentally on doing my own thing fully, that’s when things started to take off. Little did I know that I was sabotaging my full potential without realizing it.
